I recently just finished the Hunger Games. I enjoyed this book very much, this is like the 3rd time that I'm re-reading it. The themes in this book really pop out, and are really clear. One of the main themes in this book is "power". If anyone read the book we know that the government (a.k.a "capitol") has power over everything, including who lives or dies. And for the government to have that much power and be able to decide who can keep their lives or not is really "wow factorish" (feel mee ?). lol anyways....
Another theme in this book is strength and skills. One of the main characters in this book named Katniss was a hunter/gatherer and to be 13 and be able to do that is something to be proud of. When she is put in the Hunger games; which is a "game" in an arena where you have to fight for food, shelter, and for life, strength and skills decide who wins the hunger games.
Last theme that I think stands out is sacrifice. Katniss's little sister got chosen to be a part of the hunger games, but since she is small and weak katniss is sacrificing her own life and taking her sisters place, what a nice sister! lol. There are so many other themes in this book, but I kinda need to do my other hw, but i'll elaborate on this another day!

Lush
The book Lush is a book about a girl named Sam that has an alcoholic as a father and her experiences with it. I don't want to give too much away because it it a short book and one little detail can spoil everything. This book really got to me because of my uncle, who was also an alcoholic. I love books that I can relate to because then I can really sink my teeth into it and feel what the main character is feeling. Kids with parents that are alcoholics have a very bipolar relationship, when sober everything is fine but when drunk all hell breaks loose ( is that a curse? whatever i dont think it is) Not only is this book a good novel in general but its also sort of a non-fiction book teaching us about alcoholism.
Sam goes through a lot, her mother is fragile and can't really be the mother figure of the family and the father is always drunk. Sam as a young 13 year old girl has to play big sister good daughter and mom and dad all atthe same time to her little brother Luke.
So i recommend this book to any body that likes reading baout teen girls and their problems IGHTTTT IM OUTTTTT <3

One of those hideous books where the mother dies
When I first picked up this book, I just took it because it fit all my basic standards of an enjoyable book. My standards are usually about teen problems and realistic fiction, I tend to enjoy when authors write about this kind of stuff. This book is about a young teenage girl named Ruby that had a decent, fun enjoyable life, until her mother died. Then she had to live with her famous actor father.Whip Logan (her father) left the family when she was just a little kid. She had to leave behind her bestfriend, her first love of her life Ray. I don't want this post to turn into this whole retell of the book, because that is not what I'm going for.
This book made me appreciate my loved ones, because one day they can just not be there anymore. This book has many deep and plain simple themes, such as: death, love, and many more. This book has many twists and turns. It's written in poem-like form which makes it more fun to read in my opinion because it just looks like less words. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a heart filled story.

Cirque Du Freak Series
I was never into that whole Sci-Fi thing. But for once I wanted to read something that I wasn't so familiar with. Many people were suggesting the "Cirque Du Freak" series as a good start on this new genre. The first few chapters I was about to quit this book, I just was so bored with this scientific fiction stuff, It was unbelievable and not entertaining, I feel like the best books are the ones I can relate to the most, but what can I relate to a person that goes to some sort of freak show?
I knew that if I can just get through this one book, I can cross sci-fi off my genre list. I knew that completing this "mission" was going to be tough, because reading a book that does not interest you at all is quite a drag. But once I actually read it and look past the basic plot, I saw the real issues and the main characters true feelings and emotions.
The first time I read it without passion. I just read it to get it over with, but when I re-read it I realized that there's so much more to the story then a boy that goes to a "freak-show" thing. This whole series takes you on a journey full of twists and turns, which is obviously expected. But as a surprise these turns were very unexpected, I knew they were coming but I didn't know when which really shocked me.
I definitely suggest this book to any newcomers to the sci-fi world, or any of the people that already know Sci-Fi. It's totally worth reading it, but don't worry for any people who were just like me, you'll probably won't like it at first, but as you get in between those lines and think out of the box, you'll see the meaning and the psychological depths of this book.

The boy in the striped pajamas
This book takes place during world war 2. The main characters name is Bruno and his father is a commissioner in the conservation camps. But Bruno doesn't know of this until his father has moved them from their home in Berlin,saying that he has a good job around the new house. Bruno feels very lonely there, I just started this book but the theme of the first couple of chapters in my point of view is loneliness. Bruno had to leave behind three of his best friends, which from my own experience is very hard. Everyone seems to like it in this new house except Bruno. Bruno is definitely not physically lonely, his family is always around him. But Bruno thinks that without his friends he's always lonely.I feel bad for Bruno, no one listens to him because he's eight years old,I can relate to that because I remember when no one listened to me. But as the book goes on I can't wait to find out what Bruno has ahead of him.

Sold By Patricia McCormick
Sold by Patricia McCormick is a book about a young 13 year old girl who gets robbed of her childhood. I had myself resisting at many of the sexual parts in this book. But it was so interesting I just kept on reading.
I was resisting because I was so unfamiliar to the text. I mean I knew about human traveling but I never actually read anything about it, and I was also resisting because this girl is the same age as me and I could never imagine myself in her shoes doing the things she did. There was a lot of descriptive parts that are just pure disgusting, but I felt that the resisting made me realize what a good book this really is, because It actually made me think about all these tings that are going on int his world that is just wrong.

Freak The Mighty- Social Action Issues
What really hard things are happening in the text ?
I think stereotypes are a really big thing happening in this book (Freak The Mighty). People say "Like Father like Son" but in this case, when your father is a killer you don't want to be like him. But since Max is a spitting image of his old man everyone assumes he will be just like him.
No one wants to befriend Max because of his fathers actions and how people label Max. Labeling is also a big thing happening in the text, Max is labeled as the big mean kid of Killer Kane, just because of his size. It's not his fault he's tall, and he hit his growth spurt faster then any one else.
Because of this labeling and all these stereotypes Max's self esteem and self confidence are crushed. These are really big issues, that aren't just basically written in the book, you have to look within the words and really think in Max's mind. No one wants to be known for being the Killers son. He isn't proud of that, and doesn't want that. He doesn't even bother to make friends at this point, Because he knows he's not gonna make any.
